“No Secrets” Policy for Couples

I have a strict policy of “No Secrets” when working with couples, which means that I cannot protect secrets of either partner from the other person, especially if the secret is harmful or destructive to the process of our sessions or undermines the agreed upon intention of our work together.

Please be aware that any time you share information with me privately, whether in person, by phone, or by any other means, I have the right but not the obligation to share that information with your spouse/partner if we are doing couples’ work together.

Please understand that I will make such decisions in the context of sound professional judgment, and considering what I believe is likely to be best for your relationship and our sessions.
