Hi, I’m Dave Lechnyr, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing individual mental health therapy and couples counseling. I’m pleased to announce that I accept PacificSource Community Solutions (OHP – Oregon Health Plan). This is an important step in addressing the significant need for mental health services in underserved populations. I’m committed to ensuring everyone has access to quality care, whether they’re navigating anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges.
Common Frustrations
The most common complaint people I hear about with the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) is the difficulties in finding a counselor. Many clients have reported experiencing extensive waitlists (often lasting several months), difficulty finding therapists who are accepting new clients, and limited options for providers who accept OHP.
These issues stem from a shortage of mental health professionals in the area, particularly those who accept OHP. Clients frequently described being “bounced around” or having appointments canceled, leading to frustration and delays in receiving necessary care.
These are some of the main reasons I find it important to be able to accept OHP for my clients as both a mental health therapist and resident of Oregon.
PacificSource Community Solutions
Currently, I can accept Oregon Health Plan (OHP) clients who have PacificSource Community Solutions. This is the Medicaid division of PacificSource, which is different from PacificSource Health Plans which offers private insurance options. It’s generally viewed more favorably than other OHP systems, which contrasts with some of the challenges faced by other organizations (although it’s true that experiences can vary).
Oregon Health Plan
The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) serves a diverse demographic, with a significant portion of its members accessing behavioral health services. According to the Oregon Health Authority, approximately 1 in 5 OHP members report experiencing mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, and their impact on relationship issues. The program prioritizes underserved populations, including low-income individuals, children, and those in rural areas, offering comprehensive support for behavioral health needs.
Mental Health in Oregon
Oregon continues to reflect a significant need for mental health services, with common challenges including anxiety and depression, often exacerbated by socioeconomic disparities and housing instability. As a university town, Eugene also experiences unique mental health needs among younger adults and students, particularly around stress, burnout, and transitional life stages. Additionally, rural and underserved communities in the surrounding areas face barriers to accessing consistent and affordable mental health care.
